DBD-1 - Distortion Audio Plugin (AU/VST3)
This is a dual band distortion audio effect that uses two different distortion algorithms for each frequency band.
The first distortion band uses a simplified method to emulate the hard clipping Boss DS-1 distortion pedal and the second band uses a few wave-shaping functions in order to provide soft clipping of the input signal. The crossover between the two bands is controlled by the "band cutoff" knob that uses a second order "TPT" filter. The crossover frequency can go from 50 to 20 kH, so it is possible to use a single band for distortion.
The plug-in features a HQ toggle button that allows the use of 2x oversampling before and after the non-linear processing in order to reduce aliasing artefacts.
Finally, a drop down menu allows the user to select the type of clipping applied to the output signal. This option is useful when you don't want the final signal to exceed 0 dB. There are options for hard and soft clipping as well as no clipping of the signal. When the oversampling function is active, the clipper is set to off, by default.
Future improvements: -better, more transparent soft clipping options, -linear phase filter, -spectrum analyser with band control, -4x and 8x oversampling
